The city of Cottbus has 102.000 inhabitants and is the second largest city in the federal state of Brandenburg. Cottbus is an urban agglomeration located between Berlin and Dresden. The city strengthens the economy in Southern Brandenburg. The regional metropolis develops increasingly to a centre of service, science and administration. Many scientific-academic facilities and notable companies operate offices in Cottbus.

The well-established Brandenburg University of Technology was founded in 1991.On July 1st 2013 the BTU Cottbus and the University of Applied Sciences (FH Lausitz) merged into the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg. The BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg stands it's gound and attracts more and more students. Meanwhile about 10.000 students study in Cottbus. Their spirit revives Cottbus with a young and dynamic flair.
